EC3 - Early College Credit in Cybersecurity Workshop

Workshop Overview:

There are benefits to students and institutions for early college credit in any subject, including cybersecurity. Early college credit can:

  • Lead to early exposure and help students opt in or out of a discipline
  • Boost the GPA depending on the mechanism
  • Increase enrollment in the high school course depending upon the type of course
  • Allow students to earn college credit and thereby save students money and time
  • Help higher education enhance recruitment and enrollment
  • Help higher education identify students with interest and talent in cybersecurity

Based on research to date, early college credit in cybersecurity is happening in pockets of the U. S. These early examples include notable variations in:

  • Expectations and motivations
  • Content
  • Mechanism
  • Type of credit, and
  • Processes for establishing the early college credit.

This workshop will explore these early efforts, their similarities and differences, and publish a report on these models in the interest of strengthening the ecosystem for early college credit in cybersecurity.
