This graduate-level course enables teachers to gain cybersecurity content knowledge and begin their graduate certificate journey. Read more about this course below. NCTA Foundations of Cybersecurity Summer 2024

Are you ready to begin your graduate certificate in cybersecurity journey?
The National Cybersecurity Teaching Academy (NCTA) is an 18-credit hour online graduate certificate program for high school teachers. Cohort 2 is beginning this summer, June 2024. We are offering the first course for free as professional development, with an opportunity to earn graduate credit.
This Professional Development is free for all certified US high school teachers registered by May 1, 2024.
What to expect:
  • Foundations of Cyber Security is the first of six graduate-level courses in the National Cybersecurity Teaching Academy program.
  • The course covers the big ideas of cybersecurity including the CIA triad (confidentiality, integrity, and availability).
  • The course is administered asynchronously online via Canvas LMS from June 1 - Aug 31, 2024; with modules released every 2 weeks.
  • Up to 45 hours of professional development or graduate credit can be earned.

Early Cybersecurity College Credit (E3C)

Are you wanting to know more about early college credit for the cybersecurity course you teach?
We invite you to explore the E3C page.
You will discover the goals, content and credit each of the universities/colleges (listed below) offer for a high school cybersecurity course.
Additionally, you will learn the backstory on how the articulation agreements came to be.

Teach Cyber Pipeline Award

The deadline for nominating a teacher for the Teach Cyber Pipeline Award is April 19, 2024. If you, or a teacher you know, should be recognized for their efforts in building the pipeline from high school to college in cybersecurity, please nominate them for the Pipeline to Cybersecurity Award.
Pipeline to Cybersecurity Award
This award recognizes teachers creating a pipeline for students to go from the high school cybersecurity classroom to a higher education cybersecurity program. These teachers have, or in the near future will have, an articulation agreement with a college or university for their high school cybersecurity course. The high school course should include Teach Cyber curriculum and enable students to earn college credit.
Nominate a cybersecurity teacher by filling out the application.
The application deadline is April 19, 2024.

UTEACH Cybersecurity Pilot

UTeach Computer Science is now accepting applications to join the 2024-2025 pilot for the new Foundations of Cybersecurity course, developed in collaboration with Teach Cyber.
What are the eligibility requirements?
  • You must be teaching at least one section of Cybersecurity at a high school in the U.S. during the 2024–25 academic year.
  • You must fully complete the virtual professional development for Foundations of Cybersecurity July 25–26, 2024.
  • You must commit to using the UTeach Foundations of Cybersecurity curriculum on the Codio platform as your primary curriculum for the 2024–25 academic year and implement the course with fidelity.
  • You must be willing to actively provide feedback to enhance the curricular materials through activities, such as end-of-unit surveys and course implementation plans.

UTeach CS will reach out to a limited number of applicants with the next steps to officially secure a spot in the pilot, so apply soon!

Please note: The curriculum developers intend to build all activities in the existing platform, but there is a small possibility that schools will need to cover additional costs for access to a supplemental virtual cyber range.

Conferences

Dr. Jenny Daugherty and Dr. Petra Robinson from Louisiana State University will be presenting at WiCyS 2024 (April 11- 13) in Nashville, TN, on the ARC (Assessment Resources for Cybersecurity) project. Dr. Jenny Daugherty and Dr. Paul Wagner from the University of Arizona will be presenting on the NCTA course at the Cyber.org EdCon24.
