Jamie Key

Jamie began implementing computer science courses at her school nearly seven years ago to include the addition of cybersecurity 2 years ago. She continues to recruit students to the class and cybersecurity competitions. Her dedication and enthusiasm led her to partner with the local community college and businesses to promote cybersecurity education. Jamie has helped generate interest in cybersecurity for students by showing them how relevant the field is to their daily lives and as a potential career path. Jamie resources her classroom so her students gain real-world experiences, use technologies such as the US Cyber Range.

And she show the students paths forward through internships and scholarships. One of Jamie’s students shared, “She has helped me realize my dream of working in the cybersecurity field and has assisted me every step of the way.” Congratulations, Jamie!

|
James has brought a real-world opportunity to the Wind River Reservation, where he serves a 100% Native American school. He has created a cybersecurity program that produces certified students right out of high school. James has attained CompTIA Education Partner for his school districts, leading students and peers in pursuing cybersecurity education. Additionally, he served as an equity fellow for the CSTA Equity Fellowship program and is working to bring CS opportunities to one of the most marginalized groups of students in America. Congratulations on achieving the platform award and your efforts in broadening participation in cybersecurity!

Sylvia began teaching computer sciences courses in 2017; by 2019, she was leading a cybersecurity course. Sylvia creates opportunities for her students to find pathways into cybersecurity through the classes she teaches and through two CyberPatriot teams she sponsors. In addition, Sylvia helps raise interest in cybersecurity in younger students through workshops her high school cybersecurity clubs hold for elementary and middle school students. Sylvia also promotes cybersecurity education to her peers through speaking at events such as the 2023 TCEA Convention.

PASSPORT AWARD WINNER
|
|
|
|
Crystal, a dedicated teacher, raises cybersecurity awareness among her students and younger students in her district. Crystal started a program that allows her advanced students to go into elementary schools and teach hands-on offline cybersecurity lessons to engage students and get them excited about cybersecurity. Additionally, her students enjoy the positive learning environment she creates, which gives them the confidence to know they belong in cybersecurity. Crystal takes great pride in customizing her curriculum to allow each student to be successful in whichever aspect of cybersecurity they choose. Her students have chosen networking, software, and hardware. Congratulations to Crystal!

All episodes are grounded in the 8 Big Ideas from Teach Cyber’s HSCCG. The most recent episode touches on the many paths into cybersecurity that still maintain traditional ethical guidelines. After streaming an episode, listeners can complete the corresponding episode challenge to put their new knowledge and skills to the test. Individuals, groups, classes, or teams who complete the challenge will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win cyber swag, a pizza party, and a Zoom call from a special guest.
The final episode and challenge of #CyberChats Season 1 airs this month, so there’s still time to listen in!
