Dr. Phil Huff from the University of Arkansas Little Rock will discuss how the 8 Big Ideas of the High School Cybersecurity Curriculum Guidelines lay a foundation for students to study cybersecurity in college.

We will also discuss:
  • the difference between digital citizenship/cyber safety and cybersecurity
  • the relationship of cybersecurity to computer science
  • the implication of the above for building high school cybersecurity courses and programs

The NCF is hosting a Cyber Chat about why we need to teach cybersecurity and how to become certified. This virtual event is on Thursday December 2, 2021 from 6:00-6:45pm.

Teach Cyber at NICE K12

TeachCyber is leading a preconference workshop entitled “Teaching Cyber in Various Implementation Settings” on Sunday, December 5 at 1 pm ET. This 1.5 hour workshop will highlight how to use the Teach Cyber courseware:
  • for a variety of cybersecurity courses based on the number of contact hours in the course, (year-long, semester, quarter, etc.), the educational setting (traditional classroom/computer lab, after school club, etc.), or
  • as a cybersecurity unit in a CS, IT or Gen Ed course.

This no cost event is a 90-minute virtual workshop on Saturday, December 11, 2021, 10:30 AM - Noon ET.

National Cybersecurity Teaching Academy

The NCTA program will:
  • offer a 12 credit hour graduate certificate to prepare high school teachers to teach cybersecurity.
  • be delivered online, start in summer 2022 and wrap up in summer 2023.
  • be granted through one of three universities: DePaul University, University of Louisville, and University of Arkansas Little Rock.
The grant provides scholarships for 90 teachers to cover tuition and fees.
There are 5 information sessions for you to learn more.
  • December 6 at 5:00 pm ET
  • December 7 at 7:00 pm ET
  • December 11 at 4:00 pm ET
  • December 13 at 8:00 pm ET
  • December 14 at 9:00 pm ET
